Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been arrested outside his residence on Kenyatta Road early Tuesday morning and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning. While police have not disclosed the charges he is facing, there are claims that his arrest is linked to his recent allegations that the government spent Ksh 13 billion to fund Raila Odinga’s unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Koimburi’s arrest comes just days after he announced plans to sponsor a motion seeking to impeach National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. The MP accused Wetang’ula of violating a court ruling on the composition of the Majority and Minority sides in Parliament. His push for impeachment had already stirred heated debates, and his sudden arrest is likely to escalate political tensions even further.

The allegations surrounding Raila Odinga’s AUC bid have sparked widespread discussion, with some questioning the level of government involvement in the failed campaign. Odinga, who was eliminated in the sixth round of voting on February 15, had received support from Kenyan diplomats and government officials, but there has been no official confirmation of state financing.

As Koimburi undergoes interrogation, speculation continues to mount over whether his arrest is politically motivated or linked to other undisclosed issues. The unfolding events could have significant political ramifications, especially as Parliament braces for his impeachment motion against Speaker Wetang’ula.
