Kenya’s gospel fraternity is in mourning following the death of celebrated gospel singer Mama Regina Muthoni, the legendary voice behind the timeless hit “Yesu Ulishinda.”

The veteran artist, who passed away on Thursday night, leaves behind an unmatched legacy that shaped Kenya’s gospel music landscape for decades. Her classic track, a household anthem across churches and Christian gatherings, is widely regarded as one of the country’s most powerful gospel compositions.

Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) Chief Executive Dr. Ezekiel Mutua confirmed the passing, hailing Mama Regina as “a true icon whose music has touched and inspired countless lives.”

For years, Mama Regina’s music not only uplifted congregations but also played a central role in defining Kenya’s gospel sound during the formative years of the industry. Her unique voice and unwavering devotion to her ministry through song secured her a special place in the hearts of believers.

The news of her demise has sent shockwaves across the music community, with fellow artists and fans alike reflecting on her contribution to faith and culture. Industry players note that she paved the way for modern gospel musicians, demonstrating how music could be both spiritually grounding and commercially viable.

Mama Regina’s passing marks the end of an era for gospel lovers who grew up inspired by her music, but her legacy continues to resonate through generations.
