Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu faced intense questioning from the Senate today, struggling to provide clear answers regarding the formation of the Kenya Industrial and Technical Institute (KICOTEC) and the management of its finances. Despite the earlier summons and a Ksh 500,000 fine for her failure to attend, Ngilu appeared under fresh orders alongside the current Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe and his finance team.

The Senate committee pressed Ngilu on how the land for KICOTEC was acquired and the subsequent expenditure of Ksh 168 million, which had been flagged by the Auditor General’s office for irregularities. The current Chief of Finance, Mr. Justus Makau, also faced tough questions about financial 79thmismanagement, particularly regarding large unauthorized withdrawals made by staff members Georgina Musembi and Faith Muna.

The session highlighted significant concerns over transparency in the formation and financial oversight of KICOTEC, with the Senate demanding answers at a time when accountability in Kitui County’s financial dealings is under scrutiny.
