In yet another dramatic twist in the Kenyan music industry, Benga maestro Alex Katombi has thrown shade at gospel star Stephen Kasolo after a local blog casually referred to them as “Kitui Brothers.”
The Benga artist, known for his catchy secular tunes, did not mince words in distancing himself from Kasolo, who is equally controversial in the gospel music scene.
“I don’t want to be associated with this nonsense. Bro wakuthi naku🗑️ ndienda uvakwa mai nye! I know my brothers, and this is not one of them,” Katombi declared unapologetically, igniting a storm on social media.
The gospel artist, not one to take such statements lying down, fired back in typical Kasolo style. He shared a screenshot of a Ksh 6,000 Mpesa transaction he allegedly sent to Katombi during the latter’s housewarming party earlier this year.
“Yet you don’t know me, na Mpesa ulipokea vizuri ukifungua nyumba 😂😂. Some people are wicked 💔💔💔!!!! Nye ningwisi na wi wakwitu. Why fight me, surely? Natiiye twamina, we wasa kowoolowe??” Kasolo retorted, adding a mix of humor and heartbreak to the unfolding drama.
This public spat has drawn attention to the stark differences between the two artists. Alex Katombi, a revered figure in the secular Benga music world, has amassed a loyal fanbase with his melodious tunes celebrating life, love, and culture. On the other hand, Stephen Kasolo, a gospel singer known for his deeply spiritual songs, has often courted controversy for his fiery personality and frequent clashes with fellow artists and bloggers.
Adding to Kasolo’s woes, the same blog that sparked the “Kitui Brothers” saga has accused him of sabotaging their YouTube channel by reporting their videos for copyright violations. The blog alleges that Kasolo’s actions led to their temporary suspension. The gospel artist, however, claims he’s being unfairly targeted by individuals bent on tarnishing his name.
While the exact origins of the feud between Katombi and Kasolo remain unclear, their differences in music genres and personalities have often played out in public, with fans speculating on the underlying tensions.
As the gospel and secular worlds collide in this fiery exchange, one thing is certain: there’s no brotherhood here, only a widening rift between two of Kitui’s most prominent musicians. Fans are now left wondering—who will take the next shot?
