The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that it has launched investigations into an accidental firearm discharge that occurred at the Bungoma Law Court on Tuesday morning.
In a statement, the DCI reported that at around 10:50 am, PC Cornellious Murey, an officer attached to the Directorate, accidentally discharged a round of ammunition from his Ceska pistol.
“The ricochet resulted in minor injuries to a prison officer, three civilians, and the officer himself. The prison officer sustained an injury to the chin,” the statement read in part.
The DCI noted that all the victims were immediately rushed to a medical facility where they were treated and are in fair condition.

The investigative agency further assured the public that it is working in collaboration with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Judiciary to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Appropriate measures will be taken in line with the Service Standing Orders to ensure accountability and address any potential lapses,” the Directorate added.
Normal operations at the Bungoma Law Court resumed shortly after the incident as calm was restored.
