Matuu, Machakos County, witnessed high drama on Christmas night as a police officer’s romantic escapade turned into a dangerous confrontation, culminating in his arrest.
The officer, identified as Frederick Kipchoge, stationed at Matuu Police Station, was enjoying the festive night with a woman at a local bar. According to eyewitnesses, the two appeared inseparable, sharing drinks and conversations for hours. However, the merriment came to an abrupt halt when the woman vanished from Kipchoge’s table, only to reappear at another table, cozying up with a different man.
The unexpected betrayal ignited Kipchoge’s fury, leading to a heated exchange between him and the other patron. What started as a verbal argument quickly escalated into chaos, leaving bar-goers in shock.
In a shocking twist, preliminary investigations reveal that Kipchoge stormed out of the club and rushed to Matuu Police Station. There, he accessed the station’s armory and allegedly armed himself with an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition. Sources indicate the officer intended to confront the man he believed had “stolen” his companion.
The bar management, alarmed by the escalating situation, alerted authorities. Speaking to Channel 15 News, a senior detective privy to the case confirmed that a team of officers was dispatched to the scene. The team swiftly intervened, disarming Kipchoge before the situation spiraled further out of control.
“This was a highly volatile situation. The officer’s actions were reckless and endangered public safety,” the detective disclosed. “We are treating this as a serious breach of conduct and misuse of police resources.”
The suspect is currently in custody at Matuu Police Station as investigations into the incident continue. Authorities are also scrutinizing how Kipchoge accessed the armory and whether standard protocols were breached.
Residents have expressed outrage over the incident, calling for stricter measures to prevent such reckless behavior by law enforcement officers. “If a trained officer can do this over a woman, what does it say about public safety?” questioned one local resident.
The incident has reignited conversations about the mental well-being of police officers and the necessity of upholding discipline within the service. Machakos County Police Commander is expected to address the media in the coming days regarding the officer’s fate and measures to prevent similar incidents.
