Three people are feared dead following the early morning collision involving two transit trailers along Mombasa Road between Daystar University Main Campus, Lukenya, and Athi River.
The accident, which occurred at around 7:20am, saw the two heavy commercial trucks collide before bursting into flames, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and causing panic among motorists.
Confirming the incident, Athi River Traffic Police Commander Monica Kimani said preliminary reports indicate that three people are feared dead in the inferno.
Emergency teams responded swiftly to the scene as traffic along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa highway experienced major disruption.
Authorities have launched investigations to establish the cause of the crash, even as clearance operations continue.
