The Catholic Diocese of Kitui has undergone significant pastoral reshuffling following an announcement by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela, the head of the diocese. Through a memorandum dated 3rd December 2024, Bishop Mwongela communicated a series of priest transfers and new appointments, effective 20th December 2024.

The changes, outlined in the document addressed to priests, religious leaders, and the faithful, aim to strengthen pastoral service across the diocese. Key highlights include the reappointment of Very Rev. Fr. John Mwandi as Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Parish, Mulutu, while he retains his position as Vicar General.

    Other notable transfers include:

Rev. Fr. Mark Musyoka, moving from St. Augustine Parish, Nguutani, to St. Paul’s Parish, Ikanga, as Parish Priest and Dean of the Southern Deanery.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Kivite, transitioning to St. Joseph’s Parish, Nuu, as Parish Priest.

Rev. Fr. Charles Kimanga, appointed Curate of Holy Family Parish, Kabati, while continuing as the Diocesan Youth Chaplain.

The diocese has also introduced new leadership at St. Joseph’s Parish, Kanyaa, with Rev. Fr. Josphat Ndunda named Parish Priest, and Rev. Fr. David Muneeni as Curate. Notably, the official opening and blessing of the newly established St. Joseph’s Parish, Kanyaa, is set for 9th January 2025.

In his memo, Bishop Mwongela extended his best wishes to the priests, urging them to embrace their new roles with dedication. “I commend you to the intercession of Our Lady of Protection and St. Joseph,” he wrote.

These pastoral changes are expected to enhance spiritual service delivery and foster growth in the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, which continues to prioritize the needs of its faithful.
