Police in Kitui County are investigating the death of an Assistant County Commissioner who was found dead in his rented house at Nzeluni Centre, Migwani Sub-County, in what authorities believe to be a case of suicide.

The deceased, identified as Josphat Kiok, aged about 36 years, was the Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) for Nzeluni Division. He had previously served as ACC in Wote Division before his transfer to Nzeluni.

According to an incident report filed at Nzeluni Police Station under OB No. 4/7/1/2026 at 10:50am, the matter was reported after the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Migwani Sub-County, Madam Rukia Chitech, failed to reach the administrator on his mobile phone.

The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Nzeluni, in the company of Nzeluni Location Chief Madam Grace Musanza, rushed to the ACC’s rented house at Nzeluni Centre. The house was found unlocked from the inside. Upon entry, officers discovered that Kiok had hanged himself using an electric iron box cable.

Police further confirmed that a suicide note was recovered from the scene.
The incident scene was later visited by the Deputy County Commissioner Migwani Sub-County, officers from Nzeluni Police Station, and other government administrators before being processed for investigations.

Arrangements were underway to move the body to a mortuary to await a post-mortem examination, as investigations into the incident continue under the DCIO Mwingi West.

Authorities are yet to release further details as inquiries progress.
