The Anzauni Ndene Clan has elected new national officials in a leadership transition aimed at strengthening unity and coordination among members spread across the country.

The clan, which commands an estimated membership of more than 400,000 people under the patronage of Dr Augustus Kyalo Muli, is regarded as one of the influential community formations bringing together members mainly from the Lower Eastern region and other parts of the country.

Speaking after the elections held during a meeting at Sweetwaters on May 9, Dr Muli congratulated the newly elected National Chairman Mr Onesmus Mutuku Mutava and the new National Vice Chairman Dr George Syengo.

The elections also saw Ms Becky elected as the Assistant Secretary General, while Catherine Musau was named the Women Leader for Makueni County.

According to the clan leadership, the elections were conducted during a special meeting convened to fill key leadership positions and reorganize the national structure following the death of former National Chairman Philip Mulili last year after a short illness.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Onesmus Mutuku Mutava pledged to continue the legacy and leadership vision of his predecessor, saying the clan would remain committed to unity, development and the welfare of its members. “We shall continue building on the foundation laid by the late Philip Mulili and work together to strengthen our clan structures across the country,” he said.

Dr George Syengo, who was elected as the National Vice Chairman, also thanked members for the confidence they had shown in the new leadership, promising close collaboration with all officials to ensure the clan remains united and focused on development matters.

The meeting brought together committee members and proposed officials from different regions, with members urged by Secretary General Peter Mulinge to attend and participate in the leadership transition process.

The clan has also announced plans to host its first major annual conference later this year to officially recognize and introduce the newly elected officials to members from across the country.

Organizers say the conference is expected to attract more than 5,000 clan elders and delegates mainly from Kitui, Machakos and Makueni counties, in what is anticipated to be one of the largest gatherings of the community leadership in recent years.

The event is expected to focus on unity, cultural preservation, leadership and socio-economic empowerment among members of the Anzauni Ndene Clan.
