A major breakthrough has been made in the murder of human rights activist Richard Haga Otieno, after DCI detectives arrested five suspects linked to his gruesome killing on the night of January 18, 2025.

Among those in custody are prime suspects Geoffrey Mavado, John Ndegwa, and Jorim Ngonga Sura, who are believed to have directly participated in the brutal execution of Otieno. Two others, Clinton Simantu alias Muiruri and Peter Mwaniki alias Pinchez, have been identified as the bodaboda operators who transported the hitmen to and from the crime scene.

A Crime Months in the Making?

Investigations have revealed a chilling twist: Geoffrey Mavado and John Ndegwa had previously been arrested for assaulting Otieno on November 8, 2024. They were sentenced to a one-year probation, yet just two months later, they now stand accused of orchestrating his murder.

Forensic evidence has placed Mavado and Ndegwa at the scene of the crime, with crucial findings expected to play a key role in their prosecution. Detectives are also exploring whether Otieno’s activism made him a marked man, as he had repeatedly clashed with powerful figures over land injustices and police brutality in Nakuru County.

    Justice in Motion

All five suspects have been taken into custody as detectives from the Homicide Directorate, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, and Special Operations Unit intensify their probe. More arrests are expected as authorities dig deeper into the murder plot.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fair and impartial investigations, vowing to bring all perpetrators to book. Meanwhile, the family and supporters of Molo Prezident remain on high alert, demanding swift justice for their fallen hero.

As the case unfolds, the big question remains: Who ordered the hit on Richard Otieno?
