The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of an unpredictable rainy season, with below-average rainfall expected in several parts of the country, late-onset rains, and sporadic storms.

Regions such as Northeastern Kenya are likely to experience significant rainfall deficits, while Northwestern, Rift Valley, Central, Southeast Lowlands, and Coastal areas will see near-average to below-average rainfall. In contrast, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Kenya-Tanzania border areas may receive near-average to above-average rainfall.

    Erratic Weather Patterns Pose Risks

The forecast also warns of poor rainfall distribution, with dry spells alternating with sudden storms. Most areas will experience peak rains in April, while the Coastal region will see the highest rainfall in May.

    Disaster Preparedness in Motion

The Kenya Red Cross has activated emergency plans in response to the anticipated weather challenges:

✔️ Drought Response: Scaling up support in ASAL counties, where food and water shortages are expected.
✔️ Flood Preparedness: Ready to respond in high-risk flood areas.
✔️ Emergency Teams: On standby to handle weather-related disasters.

    Stay Alert and Prepared

With drought looming in some regions and floods threatening others, Kenyans are urged to stay informed, take precautions, and prepare for possible disruptions. The government and aid agencies remain on high alert as the country braces for another season of climate unpredictability.
