Machakos Governor Hon. Wavinya Ndeti has issued a stern warning to striking doctors, demanding they return to work or face dismissal. Speaking at the commissioning of two new general wards at Katangi Health Centre, the Governor emphasized that any attempts to sabotage efforts to resume medical services, including collusion with union officials, would not be tolerated.

“Doctors must return to work immediately, or they will be sacked. We cannot allow the people of Machakos to suffer due to the ongoing strike,” Governor Ndeti stated, addressing the media during the event.

The Governor’s remarks come as a response to the ongoing healthcare workers’ strike, which has disrupted services in various public health facilities. Hon. Ndeti further warned union officials against encouraging doctors who are willing to resume work to abstain, asserting that the situation was impacting the health and well-being of the county’s residents.

Her speech was delivered during the official commissioning of two newly constructed general wards at Katangi Health Centre, located in one of the fastest-growing economic hubs in the Yatta region. The new male and female wards are set to offer patients a more supportive and comfortable environment as they receive essential medical services.

Governor Ndeti lauded the expansion of the Katangi Health Centre, calling it a timely and necessary improvement to the facility. “This expansion comes at an opportune moment, as it will significantly enhance our capacity to meet the health needs of the rapidly growing population in Katangi and the larger Yatta region,” she noted.

The development of the health facility aligns with the Governor’s broader agenda to improve healthcare services across Machakos County, ensuring that residents have access to quality medical care closer to home.
