President William Ruto and his deputy, Kithure Kindiki, shared a public platform with former President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Bishop Peter Kimani as the head of the Embu Diocese. The high-profile religious event was held in Embu County and marked a rare occasion where current and former leaders united under one roof.

The ceremony also saw the presence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whose attendance drew significant attention amidst ongoing political undertones. The event was a moment of unity in an otherwise divided political landscape, with leaders setting aside differences to celebrate the appointment of Bishop Kimani.

In his address, President Ruto emphasized the role of the church in fostering unity and promoting values in leadership. “The church remains a beacon of hope for the nation, and we must all strive to uphold peace and reconciliation,” he stated.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, known for his recent low-profile appearances, reiterated the need for servant leadership and encouraged leaders to work together for the country’s betterment. His presence sparked speculation about the thawing of relations between him and President Ruto, who had a strained relationship during the transition of power.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, representing the host county, highlighted the importance of the event for the region, calling Bishop Kimani’s appointment a “spiritual blessing for Embu County and beyond.”

Former DP Rigathi Gachagua, appearing in his capacity as a prominent Mount Kenya leader, avoided political remarks and focused on congratulating the new bishop.

The installation of Bishop Kimani attracted thousands of faithful, clergy, and dignitaries, signifying the deep connection between religion and leadership in Kenya. While the event primarily focused on celebrating the new bishop, the presence of these political heavyweights underscored the church’s role as a neutral ground for dialogue and reconciliation.

Observers will watch closely to see if this rare show of unity leads to a shift in the political dynamics among Kenya’s top leaders.
