Nairobi, Kenya — Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is currently admitted at Karen Hospital, suffering from intense chest pains, his lawyer Paul Muite informed the Senate during today’s proceedings. Muite revealed that several doctors are closely monitoring Gachagua’s condition, and due to the severity of his illness, the lawyer has been unable to speak with him directly.

“Given his state, I was not able to communicate with him,” Muite told the Senate, explaining why the Deputy President could not appear in person.

Earlier, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo had commented on a local television station, stating that Gachagua appeared tired. He noted that the Deputy President had lunch with a few senators from his region at his office before falling ill, and they had indicated that he seemed fine at the time. “Everyone, including his lawyers, was expecting him in the Senate,” Maanzo added.

Despite Gachagua’s absence due to his health condition, his legal team returned to the Senate to represent him in the ongoing impeachment deliberations. The Deputy President’s health situation has cast a cloud over the proceedings as the Senate continues its review of the impeachment motion against him.
