The Catholic Diocese of Kitui marked a significant milestone today , celebrating 60 years of evangelization during its annual Family Day at St. John Paul II Institute. Themed “Walking Together as a Eucharistic Community”, the event brought together Christians to express gratitude for God’s blessings and support for Diocesan Pastoral Projects. The faithful responded generously, contributing Ksh 61 million.

The day began with a solemn Mass presided over by Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela, who reiterated the diocese’s core pillars of self-reliance, vocation, and evangelization. In his homily, Bishop Mwongela encouraged the faithful to use their God-given talents to uplift others and foster love within the community. “Each of us has a unique talent, and we must use it well,” he urged.

Bishop Mwongela also emphasized the importance of resilience and unity, urging the congregation to avoid negativity and division. “Stand firm and refrain from attacking one another,” he said, adding, “Let’s use our mouths to bring us together, not to cause division.”

He further highlighted the power of collaboration, stating, “It is wonderful when we act together in unity.” Drawing inspiration from St. Francis of Assisi, the bishop encouraged everyone to spread peace and commit to acts of kindness in their daily lives.

Today’s event was a clear testament to the faithful’s deep commitment to the church, with several parishes recognized for surpassing their fundraising targets. The top-performing parishes were awarded desktop computers, while Kabati Parish and the Parish Mother Church (PMC) were honored as the most improved, receiving filing cabinets.

The joyous occasion drew clergy, religious sisters and brothers, representatives from Meru Diocese, and laypeople, who together celebrated this momentous day for the Diocese of Kitui.
