A Ukunda-bound bus caused panic earlier today when it lost its brakes shortly after crossing the Likoni Channel. The bus began careening backward at high speed on the slippery ferry ramp, putting the lives of passengers and bystanders at risk.
The incident, attributed to the wet surface of the ferry ramp, left passengers in distress as the driver struggled to regain control of the vehicle. Quick response teams from the Red Cross Rescue Center at Likoni, the National Police, Kenya Ferry Services, and the Kenya Ports Authority rushed to the scene to manage the situation.

Nine people were injured in the chaos. Seven of the victims were treated at the scene, while three were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention. Kenya Red Cross volunteers also provided psychosocial support to the shaken passengers and witnesses, helping them cope with the trauma.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident, with plans to assess safety protocols at the ferry crossing to prevent future occurrences.
