“You Killed My Sister!” Kamba Gospel Artist Masekete Blames Kwa-Ngata Hospital for Botched Cesarean Leading to Her Sister’s Death

Kamba gospel artist Jackson Mutinda, popularly known by his stage name Masekete, has accused Kwa-Ngata Hospital in Kitui of medical negligence, which he claims led to the untimely death of his sister, Betty, following a botched cesarean section.

In an exclusive interview with a local YouTuber, Masekete expressed his grief and frustration, stating that the cesarean performed on his sister did not meet medical standards, resulting in severe complications that ultimately cost her life.

Masekete alleged that Kwa-Ngata Hospital, located just 500 meters from Kitui Referral Hospital, failed to take proper precautionary measures after the surgery and neglected to closely monitor the post-operation complications.

“This is what I said from day one, and I will keep saying it—you injured my sister. She couldn’t eat after the surgery, yet she walked into the hospital on her own,” he lamented.

In his statements, Masekete further claimed that his sister’s intestines were mistakenly cut during the operation, leading to her inability to eat. According to him, she underwent five additional surgeries after pus started leaking from the affected organs. Betty was eventually referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where Masekete says doctors confirmed that her death was due to the earlier mishandled operation.

“Her small child keeps asking where she is. I haven’t been able to eat or even take a shower. I feel like I’m losing my mind. I lost my father when I was in Class 2. We have never buried a young person in our family; Betty will be the first. I loved her so much,” a devastated Masekete said.

Betty’s burial is set to be held at their home in Katoloni, Machakos County, on 25th September.

The tragic death of Betty brings to the forefront the question of medical negligence in local hospitals and the dangers it poses to the lives of patients. Cases like these are becoming more frequent, raising concerns about the standards of care and the safety of surgeries conducted in under-equipped and overworked medical facilities. Families who trust local hospitals with their loved ones often find themselves grappling with loss and unanswered questions.

The absence of strict oversight and accountability in such cases may lead to more lives being put at risk. Patients and their families deserve better protection from preventable medical errors that result from negligence or poor handling of complications. Masekete’s story highlights the urgent need for reforms in the local healthcare system to ensure that those entrusted with saving lives are held to the highest professional and ethical standards.

Channel 15 News attempted to reach Kwa-Ngata Hospital for comment on the matter, but our calls went unanswered by the time of publication.
