“This Was Your Third Attempt”: Kitui East Aspirant Kitute Claims Rival Wants Him Dead

Kitui East Wiper parliamentary aspirant Millitonic Mwendwa Kitute has claimed that a political rival is targeting him, alleging that what he describes as a third attempt to harm him has now taken the political contest to a dangerous level.

In a strongly worded statement, Kitute warned against what he described as a growing culture of political hostility, accusing unnamed political actors of dividing communities, frustrating emerging leaders and allegedly contemplating violence against competitors.

“This was your third attempt, indi Ngai ndekaa kwenda kwa mundu,” Kitute said, directly addressing what he described as the latest alleged attempt against him.

Kitute did not name the political rival he was referring to in the statement, nor did he provide publicly verifiable details about the alleged incidents. His claims therefore remain allegations that have not been independently established.

The aspirant nevertheless used the incident to issue a broader warning over what he termed the dangerous direction of political competition in the community.

“Dividing our people, creating unnecessary tensions, pulling down upcoming leaders, and sitting down to plan to kill simply because of political differences or selfish political interests is a dangerous path that can only hurt our community,” he said.

Kitute argued that political leadership should not be reduced to eliminating competition or silencing alternative voices, insisting that politicians should compete through ideas, development, integrity and service.

His remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with aspirants and political parties positioning themselves for contests across Kitui County.

Kitute called on political leaders, elders and young people to reject violence and attempts to turn political differences into personal hostility.

“Leadership should never be about eliminating competition, silencing different voices, or turning our own people against one another,” he said.

He urged residents to allow politicians with different ambitions and political affiliations to participate freely, saying disagreements should be settled through dialogue and democratic processes.

The Wiper aspirant further warned that political positions are temporary, while divisions created during political contests can have consequences for communities long after elections are over.

“Our strength is not in how effectively we fight one another, but in how strongly we stand together,” Kitute said.

He called on the community to protect emerging leaders and reject what he described as intimidation, hatred and political violence.

Kitute’s allegations concerning an alleged plot against his life had not been independently verified at the time of publication, and no individual was publicly identified in his statement as the alleged perpetrator.
