Dalphine Mueni has been elected the new Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kitui Branch Gender Secretary after emerging victorious in a closely contested by-election against Stella Makau.
Mueni secured 770 votes, narrowly defeating Makau, who garnered 721 votes, in a race that attracted considerable interest from teachers across Kitui County and remained competitive from the start of the vote counting process.

The election, which was conducted peacefully, saw members turn out in large numbers to choose their preferred candidate, with both contestants running campaigns centered on strengthening teachers’ welfare, enhancing gender representation within the union, and fostering unity among KUPPET members.

The final outcome brings to an end weeks of intense campaigns and positions Mueni to take up a key leadership role within the branch. Her victory is expected to usher in renewed focus on addressing issues affecting teachers while promoting inclusive leadership and effective representation of members.

Although Stella Makau did not clinch the seat, her strong performance demonstrated the confidence she enjoyed among a significant section of the electorate, reflecting the highly competitive nature of the contest.
With the election now concluded, attention shifts to the new Gender Secretary’s leadership as KUPPET Kitui Branch members look forward to the implementation of campaign pledges aimed at improving service delivery, safeguarding teachers’ interests, and strengthening the union’s operations across the county.
