The government has launched a new digital intervention aimed at strengthening reporting, protection, and response mechanisms for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases across the country, in a move designed to improve access to timely support services for survivors.

The National GBV Reporting WhatsApp platform, reachable through +254724884444, was unveiled during the Second Bi-Annual National Gender Sector Working Group meeting. The platform is designed as a confidential and easily accessible channel for survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), including cases of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence.

The system allows users to access immediate psychological support, legal counselling, and structured referral services through automated and human-linked response mechanisms, leveraging the widespread use of digital communication tools such as .

Speaking during the launch, the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Children Services, , said the initiative marks a major step in improving accessibility to survivor support services and strengthening national response frameworks.

“This tool leverages widespread digital connectivity to provide immediate, automated, and confidential psychological support, legal counseling, and direct referral mechanisms for survivors of online and physical violence,” the CS said.

She emphasized that the platform will enhance quick and accessible support, ensuring timely response, improved coordination, and stronger prevention interventions across the country.

In addition to the WhatsApp reporting system, the forum also unveiled the Guidelines for Gender Mainstreaming into Climate Action. The framework is intended to integrate gender perspectives into climate change policies and programmes, with a focus on addressing the disproportionate impact of climate change on women and vulnerable communities.

The high-level meeting brought together intergovernmental gender sector representatives, development partners, and civil society organizations, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to advancing gender equality and strengthening protection systems nationwide.
