Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered immediate changes to the security detail responsible for presidential protection following a dramatic security breach during President William Ruto’s event in Ganze, Kilifi County, on Sunday.

In a strongly worded press statement released by the National Police Service, Kanja described the incident as a “serious security breach” and a matter of the “gravest national concern” after a young man reportedly broke through security and moved toward the dais where President Ruto was addressing members of the public during a thanksgiving service.
The National Police Service confirmed that security officers responded swiftly to contain the situation and restore order, but emphasized that any breach involving the safety of the Head of State is unacceptable.
“As the Inspector General of the National Police Service, I have immediately constituted a special investigations team to conduct a swift, thorough, and uncompromising inquiry into how this breach occurred,” Kanja stated.

The IG further announced immediate changes to the presidential security team tasked with protecting the President, saying the move is aimed at strengthening existing protocols and sealing possible vulnerabilities exposed by the incident.
Kanja warned that all individuals attending public events involving the President and other national leaders must strictly adhere to established security procedures, adding that any attempts to breach security would be met with the full force of the law.
The incident, which briefly caused panic among attendees, has sparked widespread debate online over the state of security at high-profile public functions attended by top government officials.

President Ruto, however, remained calm during the incident and reportedly instructed officers not to rough up the suspect as he was escorted away.
The National Police Service has assured Kenyans that every necessary measure will be taken to ensure such an incident does not happen again.
