Waita Ward MCA aspirant Kitovoto Mutinda has openly thrown his weight behind Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential bid, using a meeting with the former Vice President to rally support for what he termed a defining political moment for the Kamba community.
Mutinda, who met Kalonzo alongside Kitui Central parliamentary aspirant Onesmas Mutua alias Kitute, said the time had come for Ukambani leaders and residents to unite behind a common political cause and support Kalonzo’s quest for the presidency.
Speaking after the meeting, Mutinda described Kalonzo as a leader whose rise from humble beginnings to the highest levels of public service represents resilience, vision and servant leadership.
“This is our time,” Mutinda said, arguing that Kalonzo’s presidential bid presents a rare opportunity for the Kamba community to strengthen its place in national leadership.
He urged the region to speak with one voice and rally behind the Wiper leader, saying Kalonzo understands the struggles of ordinary wananchi and is best placed to champion inclusive leadership.
Mutinda’s endorsement adds to growing political messaging within Ukambani that is increasingly framing the 2027 election as a crucial moment for regional unity and political bargaining.
The Waita Ward hopeful said leaders from the region should not take the current political season for granted, calling for organization, mobilization and grassroots support as Kalonzo positions himself for the next presidential race.
The meeting also signaled an emerging alliance between local aspirants and Kalonzo’s national political network, with Kitute, who is eyeing the Kitui Central parliamentary seat, also reaffirming support for the Wiper leader’s State House bid.
Political analysts say endorsements by grassroots and emerging leaders could be significant in energizing Kalonzo’s base in Lower Eastern as early succession politics begin taking shape.
The meeting comes amid renewed political activity in Ukambani, where leaders allied to Wiper have stepped up calls for regional consolidation behind Kalonzo as the 2027 presidential contest gradually starts taking form.
