Machakos County has disowned comedian Sammy Kioko’s claim for KSh 19 million, stating that no formal contract exists between the county and the entertainer. This announcement comes a day after Kioko was injured during a protest demanding the alleged payment.

Kioko, alongside fellow entertainer Tom Daktari, had staged a peaceful demonstration outside the Machakos County Finance Offices, calling for payment of the funds for services they say were rendered.

Eyewitnesses reported that plain-clothes officers intervened, and during the scuffle, Kioko was wrestled to the ground and sustained injuries.

In response to the unfolding events, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti released a press statement clarifying the county’s position. She emphasized that Kioko is not a registered supplier of the county, and that the contract for Inspectorate uniforms belongs to Movata Designs.

The governor noted that while partial deliveries were made by the company, they could not be fully inspected or accepted, and any payments must follow lawful procedures. Governor Wavinya also highlighted that the county has verified all pending bills, and verified claims are being systematically addressed through current and future budgets.

She appealed to the public and suppliers to engage through proper channels, stressing that demonstrations, while understandable, cannot override legal and financial frameworks.

Kioko was yesterday admitted to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital, but doctors later transferred him to Nairobi West Hospital for advanced medical care and closer monitoring followinginjuries sustained during a protest over the delayed payments. Fans and fellow entertainers have flooded social media with messages of support and prayers for his speedy recovery.

The county’s disowning of the claim has stirred public debate online, with Gen Z activists threatening to hold demonstrations in solidarity with Kioko and to protest the handling of the case.

Representatives for Kioko’s family have urged the public to remain calm as he continues to receive treatment, emphasizing that his health and recovery remain the top priority.
