A grassroots business empowerment campaign led by allies of Augustus Kyalo Muli is gaining momentum in Kitui Central Constituency, with the National Liberal Party (NLP) team engaging traders and small-scale entrepreneurs across Kitui Town.

The Monday activity saw the NLP Kitui Central team move around major business hubs interacting with traders, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in a drive aimed at strengthening local entrepreneurship and economic growth.

An official from the National Liberal Party hands over a branded kiosk umbrella to a trader in Kitui Town during Monday’s SME empowerment drive linked to Augustus Kyalo Muli.

Among the areas visited were Quickmart Supermarket, Total Junction, Naivas Supermarket, Kanda area, Kalundu Market, as well as the busy Kitui Bus Park where the team held conversations with traders, boda boda operators, and market vendors.

The outreach also focused on women traders commonly known as “Mama Mboga,” who form a crucial backbone of the constituency’s informal economy.

    Women Leadership in the Forefront
The empowerment drive was spearheaded by the party’s Kitui Central leadership team, with special recognition given to NLP Director of Women Affairs Magdalene Mutwii for leading the initiative.

Supporters within the party praised Mutwii for championing grassroots economic empowerment and ensuring that women entrepreneurs are at the center of the constituency’s economic transformation agenda.

According to those present, the engagement allowed the NLP team to listen to traders’ concerns ranging from access to capital, market expansion, and improved business infrastructure.

    Business Background Shaping Political Vision

The empowerment campaign aligns with the broader economic vision being championed by Dr. Muli, who is widely viewed as a potential contender for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat.

Unlike many traditional politicians, Muli’s supporters say his leadership style is shaped by years of international business experience, particularly in the logistics sector during his time working in Dubai.

Sensational Kenyan genge artist Meja electrifies fans during a high-energy performance at Woods Africa Club and Restaurant in March, highlighting the growing influence of the entertainment venue in transforming Kitui Town into a vibrant business and nightlife hub.

This background, they argue, has given him a deeper understanding of global trade networks and the role strong local enterprises play in driving regional economic growth.

    Woods Africa Club’s Economic Impact

Dr. Muli has also been credited with investing in the hospitality sector through Woods Africa Club and Restaurant, a high-end establishment that has quickly become one of the most talked-about lifestyle destinations in the Lower Eastern region.

The facility has created employment opportunities for hundreds of young people while also stimulating economic activity for suppliers, transport operators, and event organizers. Supporters say the investment demonstrates how private sector initiatives can stimulate local economies when supported by visionary leadership.

Vision for a Metropolitan Kitui Central

Dr. Muli’s long-term vision, according to his allies, is to transform Kitui Central into a vibrant commercial hub capable of attracting investors and creating sustainable employment opportunities.

His supporters believe that combining business experience with political leadership could unlock new opportunities for the constituency and position Kitui County as a key economic powerhouse in the Lower Eastern region.

With grassroots engagements now taking shape and the NLP team increasingly visible on the ground, observers say Dr. Muli is steadily building a narrative centered on enterprise, investment, and economic empowerment.
