The identity of a boda boda rider who was swept away by raging floodwaters while attempting to cross a swollen stream in Muthunge area, Thange Ward in Makueni County has emerged, sending shockwaves across the community.

The deceased has been identified as Felix Muinde, the only son of Rev. Canon David Kyengo, who serves at the Anglican Church of Kenya Iveti Pastorate.

According to family and community tributes circulating locally, Muinde’s death has been described as a devastating loss to relatives and friends who knew him as a hardworking young man who earned a living through motorcycle transport services.

It is reported that Muinde was attempting to cross a flooded section in the Muthunge–Mulangu area when the raging waters carried him away. His body was later recovered on the bank of the stream in the same ward after search efforts by locals.

The incident has plunged the area into mourning, with residents recalling Muinde’s dedication to supporting his family through his boda boda business.

In emotional messages shared by friends, he was remembered as a jovial and sociable person whose life was tragically cut short by the ongoing floods.

This tragedy comes amid renewed safety warnings from the Kenya Meteorological Department, which has projected heavy rainfall across the Lower Eastern region, including Machakos County and Kitui County, over the next few days.

Local authorities have urged residents, especially boda boda operators and pedestrians, to avoid crossing flooded rivers and streams during the rainy season.

Community members are now calling for improved safety awareness and infrastructure to prevent similar incidents in the future.
