Three police officers attached to Nguutani Police Station have died on Sunday afternoon following a road accident at Mwatungo along the Kithyoko–Matuu road.
The officers, who were travelling along the Thika–Mwingi–Garissa Highway, were involved in the crash after the vehicle they were in reportedly lost control, veered off the road and rolled several times.

Police said one officer died at the scene of the accident.
Two others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. One succumbed while receiving treatment at Kithyoko Hospital, while the third died at Matuu Level 4 Hospital where he had been referred for specialised care.

The identities of the deceased had not been made public by the time of going to press as authorities moved to inform their families.
The cause of the accident was not immediately established, but traffic police have launched investigations.

The Mwatungo stretch along the Kithyoko–Matuu road has in recent months witnessed several accidents, with residents describing it as a blackspot and calling for enhanced road safety measures.
Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially along sections prone to accidents.
