Shock and deep sorrow have gripped Machakos County and the nation following the sudden death of Moses Nduya Muthama, the son of Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.

Confirming the tragic incident, Senator Kavindu told a local media outlet that the family received reports that Moses collapsed at home on Wednesday evening, February 4, after developing breathing complications. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The heartbreaking news has devastated the Muthama family and triggered an outpouring of condolences from political leaders and Kenyans across the country.

Moses was the only child of Senator Kavindu and Johnson Muthama, a fact that has made the loss even more painful for the family. Leaders from across the political divide have described the tragedy as devastating.

Kitui Senator Enock Wambua was among those who sent messages of comfort, urging the family to remain strong during the difficult moment. Moses’ body has since been preserved at a Machakos mortuary, pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

The tragedy reopens old wounds for the Muthama family, coming three years after the loss of another child, Janet Njoki, in 2022, a painful chapter that many Kenyans remember.

As tributes continue to pour in, the family has appealed for privacy as they mourn their son and come to terms with yet another profound loss.
