Several people are feared dead following a serious road accident involving a Great Rift 14-seater matatu and a trailer at Kikopey on Saturday morning.
Preliminary information indicates that the matatu was involved in a head-on collision with the trailer under circumstances that are yet to be established. The impact left the matatu badly damaged, with passengers reportedly trapped inside the wreckage.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with multiple casualties feared after the collision. Some victims were seen lying by the roadside with serious injuries, as members of the public attempted to assist before the arrival of emergency responders.
Police officers and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene as traffic along the busy Kikopey stretch was temporarily disrupted. By the time of publication, authorities had not released an official statement confirming the number of fatalities or injuries.

The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety along the Kikopey section, which is notorious for heavy commercial traffic and frequent accidents, particularly at night.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, with overspeeding, fatigue, and poor visibility among the possible factors being considered.
More details are expected as rescue and recovery operations continue
