Senate Speaker Amason Jefferson Kingi has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of his bodyguard, Corporal John Lwane Lumumba, in a loss he described as shocking and deeply painful.

In an emotional tribute, Kingi said death struck without warning, recalling how they had been together moments before he received the devastating news.

“Gone too soon my young brother. The cruel hand of death has snatched you so fast. One minute we are having a walk and chatting jovially and the next minute I’m called to be informed that you are no more,” Kingi wrote.

The Speaker noted that Lumumba was more than just a security officer, saying their bond went beyond duty and into family.

“To me you were not just a bodyguard, you were family,” he said, praising the late corporal’s dedication to duty.

Kingi further described Lumumba as a disciplined officer who served with utmost professionalism, loyalty and commitment, qualities that earned him admiration within the Speaker’s security detail.

The death of Cpl. Lumumba has sent shockwaves through the Speaker’s office and the wider security fraternity, with colleagues and leaders continuing to mourn an officer remembered for his devotion to service.
Speaker Kingi concluded his message with a solemn farewell:
“Rest in peace, Cpl. John Lwane Lumumba.”
