The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday arrested two traffic police officers stationed at the Diani Traffic Base over allegations of soliciting bribes from motorists along the busy Likoni–Lungalunga highway.
The arrests came after the commission launched investigations following a series of complaints from road users and members of the public, who accused the officers of widespread extortion. According to EACC, the suspects were caught in the act demanding bribes from motorists, in some instances without carrying out vehicle inspections or enforcing traffic laws.
Those arrested were identified as Police Constable Agnes Longoet and Police Constable Alphanus Anayo.
After their arrest, the officers were escorted to the EACC Lower Coast Regional Office in Mombasa, where they recorded statements as investigations continue.
The operation forms part of a broader EACC campaign targeting bribery and corruption along major highways, particularly during the festive season. The commission says it has intensified intelligence gathering and surveillance within public service areas considered highly vulnerable to corruption.
