The road to the 2027 general election took a perilous turn on Tuesday evening when a vehicle ferrying members of former Chief Justice David Maraga’s campaign team was involved in a serious road accident in Nyamira County. The incident occurred as the team was returning from a funeral, a journey that has become a regular fixture in Maraga’s recent community engagements across the region.

The impact of the crash left four aides injured, necessitating their urgent transfer to a nearby hospital for medical attention. While the scene was marked by significant concern, medical personnel have since confirmed that none of the injuries sustained are life-threatening. The four individuals remain under close observation as they begin their recovery process.

Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded in the incident. David Maraga, who has been increasingly active on the political front following his endorsement by the United Green Movement (UGM), was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. However, the news quickly resonated with his supporters, many of whom have flooded social media with well-wishes for the injured staff.

As of the time of publishing, the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. Local police are expected to conduct a forensic analysis of the scene to determine whether mechanical failure, road conditions, or other factors contributed to the accident. In the wake of the event, authorities have issued a fresh appeal to political teams and motorists to exercise heightened caution, particularly during late-evening travel following high-profile public events.
