Amani National Congress nominated MP Joseph Khamis Dena has passed away. He reportedly died following a road accident in the Loresho area. His body has been taken to Lee Funeral Home. He was driving vehicle registration number KCH 767X at the time of the incident.
In a solemn communication to the National Assembly, Speaker Wetang’ula described the loss as a painful blow to the parliamentary fraternity and the nation, noting that Hon. Hamisi embodied humility, diligence, and steadfast service throughout his tenure.
Hon. Hamisi, nominated to the National Assembly by the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party following the 2022 General Election, had been serving in the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities. His colleagues often praised his calm demeanor, balanced judgment, and unwavering commitment to national cohesion.
Born in 1969 in Kinango, the late MP’s academic journey began at Mombasa Baptist High School before he advanced to the United States International University (USIU), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and a Master’s in International Business Administration. He later pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, demonstrating a lifelong passion for education and public service.
His impressive career spanned both private and public sectors. Hon. Hamisi previously served as Director of the Coast Development Authority, Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK), Director at the Kenya Airports Authority, and Director at the Kenya National Accreditation Services. He also sat on the councils of the University of Nairobi and Moi University, leaving a lasting impact within Kenya’s institutional leadership.
Speaker Wetang’ula noted that Hon. Hamisi would be “fondly remembered for his humility and steadfastness to the service of the nation,” adding that his passing was a tremendous loss to Parliament and the country at large.
To ensure a dignified farewell, a parliamentary team led by Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Owen Baya has been appointed to liaise with the family and coordinate funeral arrangements. Further communication on burial plans will be released in due course.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Speaker Wetang’ula stated as he concluded the announcement.
