Detectives in Kirinyaga East have made a major breakthrough in the gruesome murder of Jackline Waruguru Kathuri, arresting three men believed to be behind one of the region’s most disturbing killings in recent months.

Waruguru’s lifeless body was discovered on 22 November 2025 in Ninga-ini village after a distressed resident called Kiamutugu Police Station to report an unknown body lying in a thicket. Officers who rushed to the scene found shocking evidence of extreme violence — the victim had severe burn wounds, her right upper arm and breast were missing, and she bore deep head injuries consistent with a brutal assault. The body was later moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Following the horrific discovery, detectives launched a swift and coordinated manhunt. Forensic clues guided them to the first suspect, Collins Muchira Ngege, who was arrested and later interrogated. His statements led officers to two alleged accomplices — John Brian Kimotho Kamau and Stephen Muchiri Karani — who were subsequently apprehended.

Preliminary investigations show that Waruguru left home on 16 November 2025 and never returned. Detectives believe she was abducted, gang-raped, severely assaulted and dragged into a nearby thicket where she was abandoned in critical condition and later died from her injuries.

The three suspects are currently in custody as detectives finalise their investigation ahead of arraignment, with police vowing to pursue justice for the slain woman and her family.
