Kalonzo Rallies Youth to Register as Voters, Declares Gen Z Will Shape Kenya’s Future

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has intensified his call for youth participation in the 2027 elections, urging young Kenyans to register in large numbers and secure their power through the ballot.

Hosting over 700 student leaders drawn from 224 institutions—including universities, colleges, and TVETs—at the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) headquarters in Nairobi, Kalonzo underscored that the future of Kenya lies in the hands of young people. He was joined by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Wiper legislators, and the party leadership.

“The only way to challenge the current regime and bring meaningful change is by registering as voters and turning out in large numbers to vote,” Kalonzo said, adding that the government must involve students in voter registration drives as a way of creating jobs and boosting youth inclusion.

Reflecting on his legacy, Kalonzo recalled working with former President Mwai Kibaki to roll out free education, a dream he said had become a reality under their leadership but is now under threat from what he termed as systemic failures.

He credited Gen Z with sparking a new era of political consciousness, citing the June 25, 2024, protests as a historic moment that changed Kenya forever. “What you, the Gen Z, are asking for is the bare minimum—accountability, zero corruption, jobs, and a conducive environment for SMEs. Instead of delivering that, the State House has been turned into a crime scene, with bribery in broad daylight while no money is available for capitation. This is unacceptable,” he declared.

In a symbolic moment, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also interacted with the student leaders during the meeting. Kalonzo further shared his past experience working alongside the late Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai, who served as his deputy at one point, emphasizing the importance of principled leadership.

The meeting resolved that WPF chapters will be established across all universities to give students a united platform to shape Kenya’s political future.
