Fresh details have emerged about the tragic killing of city lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead on the evening of Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in a drive-by attack near Galleria Mall in Karen South, Nairobi.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. along Lang’ata Road/Magadi Road, while Mbobu was driving home alone in his four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Charles Mathuva, Kitui-born lawyer and board member of TARDA, speaking to Channel 15 News about Mathew Kyalo Mbobu’s advocacy for the SEKU School of Law.

According to sources, earlier that day, Mbobu had been added to the Lower Eastern Lawyers Forum WhatsApp group, where he actively encouraged fellow lawyers to support the School of Law initiative at South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU).

Speaking exclusively to Channel 15 News, Kitui-born lawyer Charles Mathuva, who operates MCM Advocates and serves on the board of TARDA, said:
“He encouraged lawyers to support the SEKU School of Law initiative and shared his discussions with Eric Kivuva, Chairman of the LSK Nairobi Branch. He was passionate about seeing the region’s legal fraternity grow and contribute to higher legal education.”

Mbobu’s WhatsApp message reportedly came just hours before his death, highlighting his commitment to advancing legal education in the Lower Eastern region.

Following the killing, several leaders called for swift justice. Senate Speaker Amason Kingi urged authorities to carry out a thorough investigation:
“As the country comes to terms with this tragic incident, we expect the police to act quickly to identify the culprits and ensure justice is served.”

Police have launched investigations into the drive-by shooting. Channel 15 News will continue to follow developments and provide updates as more information emerges.
