Gospel singer Stephen Kasolo has once again found himself at the center of controversy after a video of him making emotional threats during his step-grandmother’s funeral in Kitui Central went viral.
Kasolo, who was attending the burial of his step-grandmother Kakunike in Mulango, Kitui Central Constituency, stunned mourners when he launched into a tirade against those who had taken him to court in Nairobi.

In the clip, the visibly agitated musician is heard warning that the ongoing legal battle is doing him more harm than good, insisting that he is depended upon not only by his immediate family but also by his siblings. He further threatened that if the matter “doesn’t end well” he could take his own life.

At one point, Kasolo appeared to be restrained from going on with his remarks by a man and woman believed to be his in-law parents, as mourners watched in shock.
The video quickly circulated online, fueling concern and debate about the singer’s state of mind and his continued defiance of the court’s gag order.

In a swift rejoinder, Stella Mengele, who is the complainant in the ongoing case against Kasolo, issued a hard-hitting statement on Facebook, accusing the artist of attempting to emotionally manipulate the public and disobeying court orders.
“Hakuna mtu anasumbua huyu, alijitafutia mwiba akajidunga, na akasema apelekwe kotini. Mtu asiniongeleshe tena kuhusu hili jambo. Sasa akirudishwa remand juu ya contempt of court atasema anaonewa? Aliambiwa asiongelelee kesi na hawezi skia,” Stella wrote.
She added that although she had at times considered withdrawing the matter to allow her heart to heal, Kasolo’s repeated attacks on social media and in public spaces had only deepened the pain.

“Every time I have considered [withdrawing], my aggressor either posts or speaks something to attack me chini ya maji using proverbs ama kutafuta huruma kwa public… Hii time imekuwa ya kuangalia kama huyu amesoma somo na akabadilika. Alikatazwa kuongelelea kesi na hasikii, anavunja maagizo ya court,” she stated.

Mengele further dismissed Kasolo’s threats of self-harm, saying the gospel musician cannot “manipulate people’s emotions with threats,” urging that the matter be left in God’s hands for mercy and justice.
Kasolo’s outburst now raises fresh questions about his compliance with court directives and whether he risks being cited for contempt.
The case between Kasolo and Stella Mengele has drawn wide public attention, with both sides attracting strong reactions from supporters and critics alike.
