Three people are nursing serious injuries after a drunken boda boda rider caused a head-on smash at Kakeani, Mutongonui Ward, Kitui West Constituency.

Two middle-aged men and an elderly woman were on board one of the motorcycles when the collision occurred on Wednesday afternoon. They were rushed to Muthale Mission Hospital, a Level 4 facility, where they remain under intensive care.

An eyewitness told Channel 15 News that the rider was visibly intoxicated moments before the crash. “He could barely control the bike. We knew something bad was about to happen,” the witness recounted.

The incident has angered locals, who are demanding a crackdown on rogue riders. Community leaders are urging authorities to enforce strict measures against boda boda operators who drink and ride, while warning passengers to avoid boarding motorcycles operated by drunk riders.
