Kenyans are set to pay more for fuel after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced fresh hikes in the prices of petrol, diesel, and kerosene in its latest monthly review.
In a statement issued on Sunday, EPRA revealed that the price of Super Petrol has increased by KShs 8.99, Diesel by KShs 8.67, and Kerosene by KShs 9.65 per litre.
Following the adjustments, Nairobi residents will now pay KShs 186.31 for a litre of Super Petrol, KShs 171.58 for Diesel, and KShs 156.58 for Kerosene. The new prices take effect from midnight and will remain in force for the next 30 days.
The hike is expected to trigger a ripple effect on the cost of living, as transport fares and the prices of essential goods and services are likely to rise in response.
EPRA did not give specific reasons for the adjustments, but factors such as global crude oil prices, currency exchange rates, and shipping costs are typically considered in the monthly fuel pricing formula.
This latest move is likely to fuel public concern over the already strained household budgets, especially as many families grapple with high inflation and stagnant wages. Public transport operators and small-scale traders are also expected to feel the immediate impact of the increased pump prices.
