Channel 15 News can now confirm that Ikanga Ward MCA Cyrus Musyoka Kisavi, popularly known as Sonko, will be arraigned in court tomorrow, facing a storm of criminal charges linked to the alleged theft of mobile accessories worth Ksh 1.9 million from Buscar Courier Services and a string of pending fraud cases.
The arrest stems from an incident on February 8, 2025, when Kisavi was captured on CCTV walking out of a River Road-based Buscar outlet with a parcel destined for a Mombasa client. After weeks of forensic video analysis and intelligence gathering, the MCA was dramatically arrested in Nairobi last Tuesday.
But it’s what happened next that stunned detectives. Upon arrest, the MCA concealed his true identity, telling police he was Daniel Mûlei Mathîna. However, once in custody at Central Police Station, officers took his fingerprints — which positively identified him as Cyrus Musyoka Kisavi, the elected Member of County Assembly for Ikanga Ward in Kitui County.
Channel 15 News is in possession of exclusive video footage showing Kisavi reportedly exiting the Buscar office with the stolen parcel and a second clip capturing the dramatic moment when security guards cornered and roughed him up before police intervention.
According to sources at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Kisavi is expected to face the following criminal charges: Theft – under Section 275 of the Penal Code (Ksh 1.9 million worth of goods); Handling stolen property – Section 322; Obtaining goods by false pretenses – Section 313; Impersonation – giving a false name during arrest; Abuse of office – under ACECA (Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act); Violation of Chapter Six of the Constitution – on Leadership and Integrity.
Even before the courier theft, Kisavi was already a wanted man. Channel 15 News has learned that there were two outstanding warrants of arrest issued by the Makadara Law Courts, after the MCA failed to appear in court for earlier criminal proceedings. A senior police source told Channel 15 News that prosecutors are planning to consolidate these pending warrants and criminal files with the new charges during his court appearance.
This is not Kisavi’s first brush with the law. In a separate case reported earlier by Channel 15 News, the MCA is already out on cash bail in Kitui, after the DPP filed five charges against him last year — including Forgery, Fraud, and Conspiracy to commit a felony. Investigations revealed that Kisavi allegedly presented forged documents to fraudulently claim Ksh 2.2 million from the Kitui County Assembly, money meant to reimburse MCAs for personal car purchases. The case arose from a complaint by Rose Kavithe Ngoima, who claims Kisavi illegally transferred ownership of her vehicle using fake paperwork.
With multiple cases, faked identity, video evidence, and two pending arrest warrants, tomorrow’s court appearance could define the political future of the embattled Kitui MCA. Legal experts warn that a conviction under Chapter Six could lead to disqualification from public office, while ethics bodies may soon be calling for his suspension or removal.
