Detectives have arrested an 18-year-old suspect, Paul Mutongori Marwa, in connection with the shoe-throwing incident that disrupted President Ruto’s speech in Kehancha, Migori County. The incident occurred shortly after the President launched a 298-unit affordable housing project in Kuria West, when a shoe was thrown in his direction, narrowly missing him.

Two other individuals, aged 20 and 22, were also apprehended for heckling the President during the same event. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and whether the act was coordinated.

The object’s trajectory startled the crowd, but the President remained unfazed, quickly regaining composure and continuing his address, which was met with applause from many in the audience. His security detail responded swiftly, securing the area as they ensured his safety.

Head of Presidential Special Projects, Dennis Itumbi, pictured with President William Ruto at a public event in State House. Itumbi has pledged to award the person behind the viral ‘shoe thrower’ footage with a high-quality camera to support their digital content creation, calling the incident a ‘creative moment gone wrong.

Meanwhile, Head of Presidential Special Projects Dennis Itumbi has weighed in on the viral “shoe-cam” footage that captured the dramatic moment. Itumbi described the incident as a “creative moment gone wrong,” emphasizing that it was not an attack on the President.

In a surprising twist, Itumbi has pledged to gift the content creator behind the footage a smartphone, courtesy of businessman Sam Mburu, to support them in producing and sharing digital content. He is now searching for the individual to hand over the device, sparking a variety of reactions online.
