In a nightmarish scene straight out of a horror movie, villagers have been left reeling in shock after a 30-year-old man allegedly butchered his 75-year-old neighbor and devoured his internal organs — including his brain, liver, and intestines.
The chilling Monday evening attack unfolded just moments after the two men returned from evening prayers at the mosque. According to police, Zachariah Charo is believed to have crushed the skull of Ainen Twalib with a stone, before slicing open his abdomen and consuming parts of the mutilated corpse in an unimaginable act of barbarity.
Kilifi South sub-county police commander Mr. Ktabul Kochalle confirmed the incident, describing it as a rare and deeply disturbing case of cannibalism in the coastal region.
“By the time our officers arrived, enraged villagers had already descended on the suspect and badly wounded him,” Kochalle stated. “We rushed him to Vipingo Hospital for treatment before transferring him to Mtwapa Police Station.”
The motive behind the grisly killing remains a mystery, but investigators say Charo acted alone in the blood-soaked attack carried out inside his semi-permanent house.
