Tears, tributes, and tales of a gallant officer’s life marked the emotional burial of the late Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tom Omani Nyasinga, OGW, who until his death served as the Director of Inspection at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Mr. Omani, 59, lost his brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease on February 28, 2025, closing the curtain on a distinguished 34-year career in the National Police Service (NPS) — a career that saw him rise through the ranks to become one of the country’s most revered law enforcers.
Hundreds of mourners, led by top police commanders, government officials, friends, and relatives, thronged his Bogwendo Village home in Nyamira County to pay their last respects to a man they described as the embodiment of discipline, integrity, and leadership.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Eliud Lagat, led the police delegation and delivered a powerful tribute on behalf of the NPS leadership. He hailed the late Omani as “an officer who walked the tough path of law enforcement with unmatched humility and grace.”
“Tom Omani was the kind of officer every young recruit dreams of becoming — dedicated, calm under pressure, and fiercely disciplined. His legacy in the service is immortal,” Lagat eulogized.
The Director of DCI, Mr. Mohamed Amin, visibly emotional, described the fallen officer as a mentor, a friend, and a consummate professional who left an indelible mark on Kenya’s investigative landscape.
“The Inspection Directorate will never be the same. Mr. Omani’s work ethic, his attention to detail, and his mentorship leaves a void too big to fill. Kenya has lost a true son,” Amin stated.
Family members described Omani as a pillar — a loving husband, a caring father, a dependable brother, and a loyal friend whose acts of kindness extended far beyond his family. His children, struggling to hold back tears, said their father was their hero, their teacher, and their greatest cheerleader.
“His compassion was contagious. He opened his doors and heart to everyone. The loss is heavy, but we are proud of the life he lived,” one of his sons tearfully told mourners.
Decorated with the prestigious Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) by the Head of State, Mr. Omani was celebrated as a cool, calm, and well-collected commander who maintained the highest standards of discipline throughout his career. His sharp investigative mind and selfless service saw him handle some of Kenya’s most sensitive cases with unmatched precision and integrity.
As his casket was lowered into the grave, police officers gave a final salute — the skies above Bogwendo Village echoing with the sound of honor — for a man who gave his all to Kenya.
The National Police Service fraternity and the entire nation bid farewell to a rare gem. The name Tom Omani Nyasinga shall forever remain etched in the annals of Kenya’s law enforcement history.
