Even as chaos continues to rock the Kitui County Assembly, its leadership is shifting focus to the national stage. Speaker Kelvin Kinengo, embattled and facing an imminent impeachment threat, joined fellow county leaders at the Edge Convention Center in Nairobi for the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) General Council meeting.

The session serves as a preparatory event for the highly anticipated Legislative Summit, scheduled for March 17th to 20th, 2025, which will bring together all MCAs in Kenya, Senators, and key devolution stakeholders.

While the Summit is meant to discuss legislative priorities, sources indicate that Kitui’s deep-seated political wrangles will not be left behind.

Kinengo, struggling to maintain control over a divided House, will be attending the event under growing pressure from a faction of MCAs determined to remove him. The new Majority Leadership, which he has refused to recognize, has vowed to impeach him immediately upon their return from the Nairobi event.

Insiders within Wiper Party suggest that behind-the-scenes political maneuvers are already in motion, with some Kitui leaders expected to use the Summit as a lobbying ground to finalize Kinengo’s downfall. The party, keen on weakening Kinengo’s influence, allegedly seeks to paralyze Assembly operations to ensure his exit.

Political analysts argue that the Legislative Summit could be a make-or-break moment for Kinengo. Will he use the national platform to regain lost ground, or will his political enemies seal his fate once and for all?
