A section of Members of the Kitui County Assembly (MCAs) have vowed to impeach Speaker Kelvin Kinengo Katisya, accusing him of resisting recent leadership changes within the assembly.

Led by Majority Leader Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi (Kyuso Ward) and Kitui Township MCA Hon. Daniel Ngoima Kimanzi, the MCAs claim that Speaker Kinengo has failed to implement the party’s communicated adjustments to the majority position, as outlined in an official letter.

This latest move intensifies the political turmoil within the assembly, coming just months after Speaker Kinengo issued a public apology in December 2024, acknowledging leadership shortcomings and pledging improved collaboration with the executive. In January 2025, reports emerged that some MCAs were mobilizing efforts to oust him, citing dissatisfaction with his leadership.

The push for his removal signals deepening divisions in the Kitui County Assembly, as MCAs seek leadership that aligns with the evolving political dynamics.
