Former Prime Minister and ODM Party Leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, led a momentous celebration in Funyula to mark two decades since the formation of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The event, attended by thousands of supporters, party leaders, and dignitaries, was a testament to ODM’s influence in shaping Kenya’s political landscape.

The party, founded in the wake of Kenya’s constitutional reforms, has been at the forefront of the country’s biggest democratic milestones, including the birth of the 2010 Constitution. Addressing the energized crowd, Raila reflected on the party’s legacy and reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, liberation, and human rights.

“Baba amerudi na nimekuja kuuliza watu wangu mwelekeo. Sisi sio watu wa kufuata wengine ovyo ovyo; tunafuata watu na msimamo,” Raila declared, signaling that ODM is at a political crossroads and will be deliberate in choosing its next move.

In a veiled reference to the ongoing political realignments, the ODM leader assured Kenyans that the party’s decisions would prioritize the people’s rights and aspirations. “Ninataka kuhakikishia Wakenya kwamba tutachukua msimamo ambao utalenga matakwa na haki ya Wakenya wote,” he affirmed.

The anniversary celebration also served as a rallying call for unity within ODM and the larger opposition. Party insiders suggest that Raila’s statement was a strong indication of his strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, with speculation rife about whether he will make another stab at the presidency or back a formidable coalition to challenge the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.

With ODM boasting an extensive grassroots network, the party remains a critical player in Kenya’s political scene. The Funyula gathering has now set the stage for major political pronouncements in the coming months, as Raila Odinga and his allies chart the way forward.
