Students from South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) staged a peaceful vigil along the Kitui-Machakos Highway on Monday evening in honor of their three colleagues who died in a tragic road accident last week. The students lit candles, sang solidarity songs, and called for justice for their fallen comrades, who perished after their vehicle rammed into a stationary sand lorry parked along the Kwa-Vonza–SEKU road.

Kwa-Vonza Chief Ronald Mbuvi confirmed that the demonstration remained peaceful, with no cases of hooliganism or violence reported. He commended the students for their orderly conduct, emphasizing that their message on road safety was valid and should be taken seriously by relevant authorities.

The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. A close friend of one of the deceased urged authorities to ensure that stalled trucks always have reflective warning signs placed at a safe distance to alert motorists and prevent similar accidents.

The students vowed to continue advocating for better road safety measures to prevent further loss of life.
