A 26-year-old woman is set to appear in court on Monday after she was caught at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) attempting to smuggle over 600 grams of cocaine concealed inside her body.

The suspect, Wendy Mbeke Muli, was arrested on June 13, 2025, after anti-narcotics detectives noticed her visibly anxious demeanor during a routine screening just before she boarded an outbound flight. Her unease triggered suspicion among the officers, who subjected her to further checks.
Upon closer inspection, it was confirmed that she had ingested foreign substances, prompting her immediate placement under medical observation.

Later that day, Mbeke requested access to a washroom, where she excreted two drug-filled pellets. By the following day, she had passed six more, bringing the total to eight. Tests confirmed that the pellets contained cocaine weighing approximately 626.65 grams.
Anti-Narcotics officers say the concealment method used by the suspect is typical of international drug trafficking syndicates who exploit young individuals in desperate attempts to move narcotics undetected.

Muli will be arraigned on June 16, 2025, as investigations continue into the source of the cocaine and whether she was working as a courier for a wider trafficking ring.
This is a developing story. Channel 15 News will provide updates as they emerge.
