What began as a Sikukuu act of kindness in Mutha Ward, Kitui South Sub-County, has quickly transformed into a politically charged moment after Kitui Chief Officer Gladys Mamii Kivoto found herself at the centre of growing calls to vie for the Kitui South parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

For three days consecutively , Gladys , accompanied by her family conducted a grassroots outreach across Kivyuni Mathima, Katene, and Kalambani villages, where she shared Sikukuu joy with elderly residents by distributing foodstuffs and household essentials. The items included rice, ndengu, cooking oil, bread, lesos, and soft drinks.

The presence of her daughter during the exercise stood out to many locals, who interpreted it as a powerful signal that Gladys’ philanthropic work is deeply personal and firmly embedded in her family values, rather than a seasonal public relations exercise.
As the outreach progressed, the charitable atmosphere took on a political tone, with residents openly chanting “MP wetu 2027!” and urging the Co to consider challenging incumbent MP Dr. Rachel Nyamai, who is seeking a fourth term at the helm of the constituency.

Moved by the warm reception, Gladys thanked the elderly for their prayers, blessings, and encouragement, describing the moments as humbling and deeply motivating.
“The prayers and blessings from our elders are powerful. They remind us why service to the community must always come first,” she said.

Later on Saturday, Gladys paid a condolence visit to the family of Mutia in Ikandani village, following a tragic road accident that claimed the life of his son, Isaac Mutia, alongside a driver. The emotional visit further reinforced her connection with residents during a moment of grief.

“It is deeply painful to see a parent lose a young son at such a young age,” she said, using the occasion to urge motorists to exercise caution on the roads to prevent further tragedies.

Despite the growing political chants and public pressure, Gladys has not declared any intention to contest for elective office, maintaining that her current focus remains on service delivery and community empowerment to the people of Kitui county.

However, political observers note that the Sikukuu outreach may have quietly signalled the opening chapter of the 2027 race in Kitui South, turning a festive act of generosity into a potential political flashpoint.
For now, one thing is evident: the Sikukuu visit to Mutha did more than spread cheer—it sparked a conversation that could redefine Kitui South’s political landscape.
