The Kenya Kwanza administration has taken its grassroots empowerment agenda to Ukambani, with senior government officials pledging increased focus on inclusive development, especially targeting women and youth.

Livestock Development Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke on Saturday led a powerful government delegation to Migwani, Mwingi West, for the launch of a women and youth empowerment initiative hosted by local MP Charles Nguna, just a day after leading another initiative at Zombe in Kitui East Constituencyon Friday. Speaker of the National Assembly Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula also graced the occasion.

Speaking to hundreds of enthusiastic residents, Mueke emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming lives in the region through infrastructure, enterprise, and community-driven projects.

“It’s time to build our country through tangible development. With new roads like the Kwa Siku–Mbondoni Road, modern markets, and key projects underway, livelihoods are being transformed — and nothing will stop this progress,” said Mueke, adding the popular rallying cry #NiSaaSyaKwaka (It’s Our Time to Build).
The event served not only as a platform to launch empowerment programs but also as a statement of intent — that the Kenya Kwanza administration is ready to deliver in Ukambani amid growing calls for accelerated development.

Speaker Wetang’ula praised local leaders for working hand-in-hand with the national government and reiterated the administration’s dedication to uplifting historically marginalized regions.

Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna thanked President William Ruto for channeling resources to Kitui County and urged the government to fast-track infrastructure and social development projects across the region.
“What our people need are roads, water, and markets — not empty promises. We appreciate the work that has started, but more must be done,” Nguna said, calling for additional funding for stalled and pending projects in Mwingi West.
The launch of the empowerment program marks a significant moment in Kenya Kwanza’s development agenda for Ukambani, signaling a shift toward practical, community-based interventions that can drive lasting change.
